Yeah this has a lot of surface noise throughout. What a letdown after the immaculate quality of MoS If You Wait.
Steel_Blade
I hate to tell you, but I have the 2 disc deluxe, and it's just as bad :( they screwed this one up pretty bad. Almost tempted to try out the US version!
Invissibale
Anyone else having issues with this pressing? First track there's distortion on the high notes and loads of surface noise. Also sounds really compressed throughout. Vocals sound like she has a sore throat from the sibilance. There's no bass. Really wish I'd spent the extra £7 on the deluxe edition. Its actually unlistenable.
Samowar
I think the distortion you hear is in the recording - rather than the pressing. It's evident on the CD and MP3 versions of this album too.
Cordantrius
Exactly the same problems with mine on track 1. Sound quality is excellent throughout the rest of the album, but track 1 is unlistenable. I wonder whether it is a pressing fault, or whether we've both been unlucky. Having said that I'm not experiencing any issues with the rest of the album sounding compressed, having surface noise or lacking in bass. I'm playing through a Pioneer PL50L Mk2 with a Dynavector 17D2 cartridge. I haven't had the opportunity to compare to the deluxe pressing just yet, but hopefully will get to do so over the next few weeks.
Biaemi
I don't have the squeal fault on my MOS deluxe version
Mavivasa
movceo In the intro to the last track side 2, before she starts singing, there is a pressing fault on my copy. 'chip squeal' - sounds like a buzzing bee for 1/2 a second. Is it on yours? It's the kind of error that would be on the lacquers.
Rayli
What are you planning it on / set up? Which format? Thx
Ballardana
US version is pressed by MPO and it sounds great!

So the Columbia USA pressing arrived today, and it was all going so well - extremely quiet pressing, until the very last track (the best track imo) and the dreaded 'chip squeal' (pressing fault sounds like a brief burst of high pitched buzzing bee). I'm fed up chasing a decent copy of this... :(

Deluxe is no better. It is a horrible pressing and tracks poorly!! Gutted :((

Hmmm... I have the GZ deluxe version and I think it sounds great. Just listening to it a second time now on a different deck from last time and after several hours of listening to other records... and I really love the sound on this. Not getting the sibilance atall. Surface noise is low. Dynamics perhaps a bit flat. And I don't like too much bass... but it's the best sounding bit of vinyl I've had on my Dual 1219 (Ortofon blue, Dali RIAA, Audiolab 8000, Mission 753s) and my Thorens 316 (Goldring Electro High output MC, Denon something or other, Mission 751s) for a while. Maybe I got lucky? That said... the codes on the runout are slightly different to those on the European release and there is no mention anywhere of GZ pressing plant. Maybe mine's an unlisted variant?
DEAD-SHOT
jaffboy151This plant is single handedly killing the Vinyl revival! Now that might be an exaggeration. The "vinyl revival" is dependent on the big capacity of the GZ plant. Big capacity quantity-wise, that is.As far as the quality of their pressings is concerned, I unfortunately share your experience. Their pressings ever so often show to be of inferior quality and crackle and hiss. jaffboy151I have a well set up Ortofon 2m black and still get sibilance on many of my GZ media pressings..The problem is that the better your equipment is, the more it will reveal bad quality pressings.

1st album of there's I have 'If You Wait' is the 45rpm edition pressed by MPO and sounds superb!when I opened up my marbled deluxe edition and saw the tell tale GZ media digital etching in the dead wax, I shed a small tear...Why press an album with such a beautiful voice at a crap whole plant like GZ, I have a well set up Ortofon 2m black and still get sibilance on many of my GZ media pressings..This plant is single handedly killing the Vinyl revival!

I've ordered the USA pressing from my local shop, will let you know if it's better.I agree the mix is too compressed, but it's the same on the download, I thought the vinyl mastering might be better but it isn't.

Mine was also the Ministry of Sound UK Press. HMV allowed me to return it, and I paid the extra for the deluxe version. It still has a lot of surface noise, and the compression is still there, but it is better. The vocals don't distort anymore, and the instrumentation is clearer, it's not just vocals. Bass is still quiet, but it's not unlistenable.
Innadril
The compression is in the mix but the pressing is terrible for surface noise - i'm on my second copy which i had cleaned with a keith monk vacuum and the surface noise is just as bad. Deluxe version I believe is just this LP with and additional LP of extras, it's not 45rpm or the 11 tracks over 4 sides. My copy is the Ministry of sound UK press, black 180gsm.
Ferne
Where was it pressed? I guess it was GZ Vinyl?

Had this issue with the ministry of sound version of If You wait.Baught the Colombia version without the issues.Listing to the ministry of sound version off truth is a beautiful thing right now but only hearing a slicht distorsion
