Album

Brothers of the Road is the eighth studio album, and tenth album overall, by the rock group the Allman Brothers Band. Released in 1981, it is the band's only album without drummer Jai Johanny Johanson and the last album to feature bassist David Goldflies and guitarist Dan Toler and the only album to feature drummer David Toler. The song Straight from the Heart was the group's third, and to date last, Top 40 hit. It was also the first Allman Brothers album to not feature an instrumental song. By the time the 1980s rolled around, the Allman Brothers had endured such a tumultuous ride the decade prior, that almost all of the air was let out of their musical tires by the time Brothers of the Road hit the record stands. Many of the elements of the Allman Brothers' sound remain intact here, but there are several things lacking that make this a less than essential album. Listen album. Blues Rock. The Good & Bad Of 'The Allman Brothers 'Brothers On The Road'. This is the Allman Brothers in concert at the Capitol Theater in the mid-to-early 1980s. Also on the tape is a two-song, 10-minute unplugged session. I found this - maybe because it was different - to be the most interesting segment to watch and hear. Greg Allman just plays and sings by himself on Come and Go Blues. I appreciated his acoustic guitar work on that number. The rest of this is the ordinary Allman Brothers concert, meaning good son. The Allman Brothers Band already had a long history of tragedy and tribulation, and, sure enough, two LPs and steady roadwork have kept the groups name alive but failed to bring the overwhelming commercial success an outfit with such an illustrious past might have expected. Dashed expectations have been an Allman Brothers constant, from the deaths of guitarist Duane Allman and bassist Berry Oakley to the bands original acrimonious breakup to more recent label and management hassles. Brothers of the Road is a little lacking in personality, too. At its best, it has both the instrumental finesse and soul that have always made the Allman Brothers Band special
